A church chair or prayer chair is a specially made chair on which believers can kneel during the Holy Mass.
These chairs are therefore longer on one side.
In the past it was the custom that every parishioner had his permanent place in the church and had his own chair.
Rich people often had chairs decorated with velvet or gold leaf.
Usually a believer had two chairs: one to sit and the other, in front of him, to kneel.
After the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), many priests and church factories replaced the kneeling chairs by sitting chairs.
If your planning to really use the chair, the webbing under the seat needs replacing.
It's left with the old webbing, to preserve the chair's originality.
This chair is in beautiful and sturdy condition, with very little signs of wear.
The height of this kneeler is 88 cm, the width 47 cm and the depth 50 cm.
The chair weighs 7,2 kg.
1850 - 1880.
